If you’re like most younger people who holiday solo, or as a single, you’ll probably have quite a long list of things you set out to avoid on holiday. Joint-top of most lists you’ll normally find ‘paying a single supplement’ and ‘eating alone or requesting a table for one’. Then of course there are those who don’t really want to be single in a hotel full of families and children.

That’s why over 30 years ago we started the Mistral Hotel on Crete and dedicated it exclusively to single travellers who wanted a luxury sunshine break with fellow independent like-minded people. It’s an environment specially created to meet new people and make new friends with whom they can explore fabulous landscape of western Crete from our boutique-style hotel.

Our luxury solo holidays, in spacious double rooms for single occupancy with no single supplement, are for travellers who are happy to travel alone but not be lonely at the destination. Whether you’re planning ahead, or looking for a last-minute solo holiday, you’ll be warmly welcomed at the Mistral.

Our singles-only holidays typically appeal to people over 40 and are particularly a go-to choice for single women. Yet they offer something for everybody. Whether that’s relaxing by one of our two pools, heading off on our exclusive excursions or savouring the fantastic Mediterranean cuisine we are famed for. Our kitchen specialises in healthy home-cooked, traditional Cretan cuisine and everybody dines together sharing a six-course meal of organic and locally-sourced ingredients, which lets you savour the authentic and very healthy flavours of the traditional Mediterranean Diet.

Everything at the Mistral happens in a relaxed social atmosphere. As you might imagine, the friendly bar beside the main pool, which opens at 10.00am, and where later you can share a pre-dinner cocktail, or a post-dinner digestif, is the beating heart of the hotel and very buzzy after dark – Cretan nights with music and traditional dancing is a real high spot.

Daytimes we offer a wide range of excursions and activities to explore the attractions of Western Crete, the delights of Chania, and especially our glorious beaches in high summer. Alternatively you can simply kick-back around the hotel pools – it’s up to you, take part in as much or as little as you wish. Early and late season we also run Special Themed Weeks which include breaks focusing on walking and Cretan food.
