Welcome to the Mistral Hotel’s Photography Week aimed at beginners and improvers (no previous knowledge required). Learn how to take more interesting photographs with simple ideas and tips that you can use immediately and on all future holidays.
During the course, you will learn how your camera works, the basic rules of composition, exposure, storing and manipulating your pictures using a PC. Start seeing creatively by enhancing your “photographer’s eye” and looking for different subjects to photograph.
Our relaxed environment and positive approach to learning will encourage you to develop new photographic skills.
MEET THE TUTOR
Your tutor for the week is Ken Fisher Bsc (Hons) who lives in Barnsley, UK and has many years experience in teaching adult education courses in the private and community sectors in the UK.
Ken has been a professional photographer for over twenty years and is a qualified teacher and an Adobe Certified Instructor delivering Photoshop and Lightroom Accredited Courses for Adobe training centres throughout the UK. He is a contributing photographer to Getty Images and has sales of images to the likes of Microsoft, NBC News and Disney. He has had images accepted for exhibitions by the British Photographic Exhibitions in Salons throughout the UK.
Ken will provide the motivation and inspiration to improve and simplify your photography and make it fun. At the end of the course, you will have a basic understanding of your camera, composition, exposure, focusing, lenses, perspective and use of flash.
Typical ItineraryDay 1 (Tuesday) – Arrival
Dinner at the Mistral.
Day 2 (Wednesday) – Introduction to Photography
A morning talk on getting to know your camera – complimentary lunch provided by the Hotel. A short local trip in the afternoon to start your practice.
Day 3 (Thursday) – Venetian Harbour of Chania
A day based around architectural photography at the historical Chania Harbour. You will have a few hours to practice your photography around the ancient City. Meet for a light lunch on the Harbour (included) with the afternoon to shop or experiment with “street” photography.
Day 4 (Friday) – White Mountains
Pass through charming villages to visit Omalos Plateau in the heart of the White Mountains for lunch at the top of Samaria Gorge. A chance to photograph the most stunning scenery in the region.
Day 5 (Saturday) – Computing Skills & Review
A short session based at the hotel to develop your photographic computer skills and review the week’s progress.
Day 6 (Sunday) – Free day!
You will have time to relax and do your own thing and of course, practice what you have learnt!
Day 7 (Monday) – Villages of Apokoronas “Doors & Details”
A look at the finer details of rustic and traditional Cretan village life. Lunch at a local taverna.

All repeat guests will receive a 5% discount on accommodation. The price includes Chania airport transfer, single accommodation in double or twin rooms, 7 breakfasts, 6 dinners (with wine and coffee), tuition, all transportation and four lunches.
